Quick Review: Too Faced Peanut Butter and Jelly Eyeshadow Palette!

As many of you know by now, I started working with Too Faced Cosmetics in February.  I adore the company and everything they stand for, and I am very happy to be on the team!  I picked up the new Chocolate Bonbons palette, and planned to be on a no-buy for a while.  That didn't last when I walked into my Northgate store and saw how gorgeous the Peanut Butter and Jelly palette was in person.  I had to have it.  I expected to not like it much since I can't usually do warm browns, but something about this palette was different.

Too Faced Peanut Butter & Jelly Palette; $36 for 9 eyeshadows

The warm browns almost have a copper toned element that makes them look great with my eye color.  I have hazel eyes, and I struggled to decide if the palettes colors make them pull more green or brown.  Ultimately, I think it depends on which colors I wear, but I feel like they typically pull more green with this palette.

I am wearing over half of the palette in this look.

Overall, the palette is everything I expect from Too Faced.  The eyeshadows are smooth and silky and blend easily.  The textures are nice and easy to work with.  Even the more glittery shades were fun to work with, and I was able to easily avoid fallout.  Basically, you could say this is a "no ragrets" kind of buy.  Honestly, my only regret is that when I wear it into stores, they're usually sold out of it!

Madd Style Cosmetix Haul!

At last!! It's arrived!!  I technically placed this order back in October or November, but due to a paypal glitch, this package went to an old address and we had to wait out the process.  But here it is!  This is the Alice In Zombieland Collection, the Shaun of the Dead Collection, the Halloween Grab Bag, Candy Floss, Weeping Angel, Hello Sweetie, the Silence, Bow Ties are Cool, Optimus Primer in a pot (woo hoo!), Rebel Lollipop blush, and samples of All Nighter & Are You My Mummy?  I am going to try to get some swatches happening tomorrow, but my main priority is getting Clancy to actually get some sleep tomorrow.  Clearly, this photo doesn't show much besides a whole crap ton of pigment pots, haha.  =]

Phototutorial: Coffee Time.

I haven't done a tutorial in a while.  I've been busy between my two jobs, and whereas I miss you guys, I am really, really tired, haha.

I only used one brush!  This is the SOHO Smudge Brush from my Myglam/Ipsy Bag.  I used Madd Style Cosmetix pigments in Adipose, Xray Spex, Dirty Chai, Americano and Fresh Pots.  I used my Eyeko Skinny Liner in Black, my Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Pencil in Whiskey and MAC's eye kohl in Fascinating.  I also used my Urban Decay Primer Potion in Sin, and Makeup Forever's Smoky Lash in Brown.

Birchbox September 2012: Underwhelmed.

This is the second Birchbox that left me going, "...eh."

There is also a coupon for Madewell ($25.00 off of a $75.00 purchase).  The Lookbook in the box is a collaboration with Madewell.  It's cute, but parts of it kind of miss the fall trends.  This fall is calling for an interesting blend of shades, sages, crimsons, plums; and beige is a timeless color for balancing out so many deep, smoky possibilities.

I'm really, really excited to try the primer from Youngblood.  I've heard the name Youngblood here and there, and my interest has grown in them the more I hear.  The fact that they're so passionate about cruelty free makes me very happy (and curious).  I'm always excited about tea, so these Mighty Leaf samples are no exception.  I've been curious about the whole Twistband craze, so I'm excited to get one to try out.  I'm always happy to receive nail polish, and whereas I hate tiny bottles, I do like the color I received.  The samples leave me underwhelmed and I'm sure I'll pass them on.

I think this is the end of the line for Birchbox and I.  It's been fun, and I've had some good boxes, but overall I'm unimpressed.

FOTD: Back in the swing of things with Detrivore!

Color Vegan List for Sephora Kenwood #258!

HAUL: Shiro Cosmetics!

 Edit: I am editing this to add that EVERYTHING from Shiro Cosmetics is vegan!  I forgot to mention that before & this is vital because those intertubes have some pretty amazing coloring without including carmine!

I placed in order with Shiro Cosmetics a little while back for samples. I wanted to try a few things out and get a feel for the brand before I purchased any full sizes. Mostly because j0hn & I couldn't narrow down our choices of intertubes from "all of them". I waited for j0hn to leave for Mexico, then ordered a few samples that I felt he was the most interested in, then choose the rest for me.   His three choices (whether he knew it or not) were Me Gusta, Sad Keanu and Insanity Wolf.

Haul & Mini Review: One Hand Washes the Other

 

I recently ordered from the lovely Becca over at One Hand Washes the Other and have been very happy with my purchases.  Everything is vegan and cruelty free, so shop to your hearts desire.  For my first order, I ordered sample sizes of everything (please note: that bar of Black Magic Soap is actually the one for the giveaway I'm having to celebrate my birthday next month, I realized it after I took the photo) so that I could feel out how the products would work for me before I ordered full sizes of anything.  I am extremely happy with everything in this picture.

Black Magic Soap ($1.25 for 0.5 oz, $3.00 for 2 oz, $5.25 for 4+ oz; all prices are for bar form):
I got the 2oz size to see how my skin would do with this stuff, and so far, it's doing fantastic.  I don't know if it's just the soap, or if it's also my new nighttime lotion, but the repetitive breakouts I've been having on my cheeks are coming to the surface and actually drying out, which is really exciting for me.  The only issue I'm having with this stuff is that it has the bar soap filmy feeling when you wash it away.. however, this stuff is so awesome that I'm still using it twice a day with no real complaint about it.  What does this mean?  I'll just buy it in cream form next time.  Oh, and for those curious, the bar doesn't melt quickly or get messy.  I've been using it twice a day for over a week and it still looks untouched.  I will be doing a full write up soon about Black Magic Soap after I've used it for a month and finished gathering all the ways that people use this multi-purpose wonder.

Snayke Oyle ($8.00 for 2oz, $15.00 for 4 oz):
Here's why I love Snayke Oyle.. it does EVERYTHING.  My favorite use?  I love to spray it on freshly shaved legs after towel drying them.  It makes them soft, glowy and gorgeous, and dang do they smell good.  Also amazing?  Spray it on hair ends (cautiously! it IS an oil, after all) after towel drying.  The smell stays with you for ages and it makes your hair so soft and shiny.  You can get Snayke Oyle in an unscented format for those of you who have sensitive noses or already have a favorite fragrance, but with Becca's huge range of options, you're bound to find something that works with what you already wear.

Fragrance Oil Samples ($2.00 for a vial):
So here's the thing about reviewing fragance oils.. you can't, really.  Instead, I'll review the concrete, non-subjective part of it: delivery.  Both the delivery in the mail, and the delivery of the oil onto your skin.  The oil samples arrived in their little vials, tightly sealed and in a plastic bag in case of leakage; there was none.  The little vials themselves are pretty clever.  The little stoppers have a dipstick on them that you can use to apply the oil directly to your pulsepoints, which is definitely easier to control then trying to apply directly out of the vial.  Once John is home, we'll review our interpretations of the scents for you guys.  I don't trust my nose to do it alone.

Solid Fragrance Samples:
Becca threw these in for good measure.  Again, the delivery on these was fantastic.  Nothing leaked, surprisingly nothing melted (it was in the high 80s) and it all smelled wonderful.  These were in with my beautiful packaged invoice and really made me smile.  I know now that I definitely prefer the solid fragrances to the oils because I am a messy, messy (and clumsy!) person and these take away the fear of spills.

The last item you see in there is a testiment to Becca's customer service.  I had been whining in a mutual group about cocoa butter and loving the smell but how nothing had a high enough percentage to give the scent strength I wanted.. so Becca threw in a little 5g jar of unrefined cocoa butter.  That, ladies and gentlemen, is giving the customer what they want.

Why else should you be excited about One Hand Washes the Other?  Becca sent me a ton of goodies to put in my birthday giveaway that starts in late July!!  I can't wait to show you guys what goodies she sent for you!

TUTORIAL: Summer Lovin' Look with Madd Style Cosmetix!

I recently received my grab bag from Madd Style Cosmetix and fell so in love with the products inside that I was compelled to immediately apply ALL of them to my face.  I'm not kidding.  Before I started on my eyes, I already had the Frenchie lip bomb on my lips and the Cha Cha bronzer on my cheeks as a pretty blush.

First Impressions:
Birchbox this month was pretty exciting!  I have been very interested in self-tanners because I'm extremely fair and have no plans to tan.  I am a huge fan of the St. Tropez bronzing mousse we have at work, but I like the idea of a towel for ease of use.  I'm really excited to try this; they're from Spain!  I have theBalm product in the full size and love it.  The Luna bar is actually one of my favorite flavors.  I don't dislike Wonderstruck, but I'll probably pass on the sample to someone else.  As far as the Stila, I'm always excited to try new Stila products!  This one is no exception, and this is a full size product that usually costs $36!  This product alone makes this month's box.

You all know that I LOVE Take a Deep Breath, so I was excited to have this sample size to add to my brush belt (which also holds a sample size of Hope in a Jar and Eye Hope).  This gel hydrator is great for combo/oily skin types, or for people who are already using some type of serum that still needs just a little more hydration afterwards, not a full on lotion or cream.  Also, Philosophy is doing their 30% off sale until June 16, 2012, so take advantage of the coupon code Philosophy12.  I love Living Proof products, so I'm excited to try this product; also, this size is about $9-$12 in stores!  The NYX lipstick made me a little sad.  They sell in the Chinese market so it drives me crazy that their tube states "cruelty free" and I already have several colors close to this one.  However, I don't hold this against Myglam because this product is a good match for their demographic; easy to find, easy to afford, and a huge range of colors.  The last product originally left me a little disappointed, as it's a permanent eyeliner pen, but it can't be used with [contact] lenses.  I was debating using it anyways when j0hn (that brilliant boy) says, "This would be great for doing your eyebrows!  This is a good idea!"  I hadn't even thought of using it that way!  Three cheers for j0hnnyboy!  I'm unfamiliar with the brand, so I need to look them up.  They're apparently German, which gives me hope that they'll be cruelty free (European companies are usually more forward in animal rights; usually).

Overall:
I am really happy with my beauty subscriptions this month.  In value alone they were both excellent, but I was also really happy with the actual products I got in my boxes.  Look for these products to be in my June Favorites video on my youtube.. if they make the cut.

Day 17: Style/Product that Screams You

Drawn on eyebrows, black lipstick.. and a smile.  I can look as mean as I want, but anyone who knows me knows that if I care about you, I am super kind and friendly.  That said, if I don't like you, I am a mega bitch.

Day Eight: a daily must have item

I chose two.  I use my Philosophy Take a Deep Breath every morning after I wash my face because it's a lightweight gel hydrator that works really well with my combo/oily skin.  The other item is an MSC lip bomb, in this case, one of the mango butter ones; I use at least one of these each day.  I own like twenty, haha.

Day Seven.

Oddly enough, I choose my LONG HAIR & drawn on eyebrows for this one, hahah.

So.. the last time I had long hair was in the fourth grade (for those of you counting, like 15 years ago).  Having long hair makes me think of being a little kid and pony tails and horribly tacky 90's hair accessories.. and that makes me happy.  Hell, thinking about the 90s in general makes me happy.  What a time that was.  Before that, I had chin length hair that was a long bowl cut that my granny used to give all of us (hence why my hair was really long once I had an opinion about my hair.. it was either bowl cut or no cut, haha).

My drawn on eyebrows?  Well, j0hn and I clearly have an odd relationship.  The night we waxed off our eyebrows together, though odd to most, was a bonding experience.  Also, it didn't hurt, like, at all, so it was an all around good night.  We giggled at how silly I looked, we laughed at how horrible I was at drawing them on, and we were bummed by how little anyone noticed that j0hn's were gone.

PS:  Also happy evoking in this photo?  The Cruelty Free necklace I'm wearing that Danielle unexpectedly sent me (makes me smile everytime I look in the mirror), my Tangerine Tango hair flowers and tank top (that I bought while training for Sephora in Minneapolis), and my snakebites, which were a gift to myself after I quit my "corporate" job, haha (see: Blockbuster).  My arm tattoos represent my veganism and my love for Batman, both of which are pretty awesome things.  =]

Day Six: Something You Wish You Wore More Often

I don't wear foiling mediums and bases OR fake eyelashes nearly enough.  Bases and mediums are always an after thought ("this would have looked SO GOOD over Awesome Sauce!!") and fake eyelashes are always a pain for me to put on unless they're only half lashes.  I need to get over avoiding fake eyelashes though because I absolutely love the way they look when applied properly.

Not enough color in this for me, I like my pinks more of a peach or blue based pink, this is more neutral & pastel.  It's a touch warm and it has a kiss of peach micro-glitter in it.  Best use as a highlight, or for an all over glow (like a beauty powder).  Used a half a dozen times, but hardly any signs of use.

I bought these because they reminded me of Tokidoki.  Some I got at full price, some I got on clearance (different trips).  One is still new & sealed, the rest are open, but unused.  I swatched the Unicorn one.  I lost the sponge tip applicator to the Octopus one.  I'm sure I dropped it & just threw it away.. once those things hit the ground they are trash.  I have Unicorn, Octopus, Monster, Cloud & Panda.

I would love this if these colors were matte.. they'd make a great Bert McCracken eye, haha.  Sadly they're shimmery so they need a new home.  I swatched both sides, and the darker color came to me with a dent out of it (which is pretty common with cosmetics at Wal-mart, haha).

Day Five: Your Best Bargain Buy

I have several items I would choose as bargain buys, but let's face it.. this is the best one.  It's the ELF Liquid Eyeliner.  It's $1.  I wear it every single day as my eyebrows.  It doesn't (usually) grey out, it last all day, and it comes off easily at the end of the day.  I love it.

Warning:  they've apparently since changed the brush.  Crap.  Looks like I'll be getting the Sephora liner next.

Day four: your favorite eyeshadow color

Hands down? Green. These are my greens just from msc, haha.  & I'm missing a few.
